🔴 One of the most important steps in supporting a child’s growth is letting go of the belief that every disappointment they experience reflects a failure in parenting. One of the most exhausting misconceptions of modern parenting is the tendency to interpret every sad expression, tear, or stumble as evidence of our own inadequacy as parents. In reality, not every disappointment a child encounters is a parenting failure.
🔴 In this seminar, we will explore the dilemmas of modern parenting through the lens of psychoanalyst and pediatrician Donald Winnicott’s concept of “Good-Enough Parenting.” We will discuss how disappointment is not a crisis to be feared, but rather one of the most essential developmental experiences that contributes to a child’s emotional maturation. We will also examine the importance of a parent's capacity to accompany and support a child through these moments of disappointment.
Rather than striving to create a flawless world for children at every moment, we will reflect on how we can face life's inevitable frustrations and ruptures together with them. Along the way, we will explore the profound and restorative power of what might be called “the loss that fosters growth.”
